Meet The Candidates

Coordinator of Social Justice
Matthew Homa
Hello Marianopolis! If being Coordinator of Charities and Volunteering on this year’s Congress has taught me anything, it is how to develop, organize, and execute events that will make meaningful change in our college. Not only that, but by being part of Marianopolis’ Sexual Violence Prevention Committee, spearheading my high school’s Earth Week, running the Holiday Charity Drive and Carnival Week, and participating in Silver Key and the Debate Club, I have developed the skills necessary to build multifaceted and important activities as Coordinator of Social Justice. Some of my plans already include creating more green spaces, paper recycling, composting, highlighting the voices of disenfranchised groups, and creating mental health and sexual violence education outlets and resources in the college, all while emphasizing your voices and passions. If any of this sounds interesting, I invite you to visit my website (https://sherlockhoma.wixsite.com/matthew4msu) and vote Matthew for MSU!

Coordinator of Social Justice
Yu Ran Wang
Hi Marianopolites! This year, as an active member of the Social Justice Committee, I've organized events and information campaigns that have promoted awareness of topical issues. I have worked on Sexuality week boards, research for VCS, the creation/planning of Greenspace, and more. I also launched an information campaign on impactful activism in order to help you ensure your advocacy is effective, and I organized Middle Ground, an event for people to share differing opinions and learn to disagree in a respectful manner. As you can probably tell, I am passionate about advocacy. That, combined with my participation in student life and my experience in leading initiatives, would make me a great choice for Coordinator of Social Justice. Coordinator of Social Justice
Demetra Kritsidimas
Hey Marianopolis! Amidst all the ‘Breaking News’ headlines each of us encounter on the daily, it’s easy to feel like your individual impact is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Thanks to my past involvement with Fridays for Future Montreal, my fundraising events for Unicef Canada and the Canadian Mental Health Association, and my commitment to education, action, and empowerment, I believe I am the ideal candidate for this position. My passion for social causes, dedication to building a sustainable future, and willpower to amplify the voices that our society systemically silences is just a glimpse into the impactful platform I wish to share with you all. A vote for me is a vote to fight against the inequalities far too many people face. A vote for me is a vote for YOU. #demetra4congress

Coordinator of Social Activities
Jamie-Ly Costa-Nelson
TThroughout the semesters, I have participating in most, if not all, activities that were given to us through the various clubs that we have and the Congress itself. If there is one thing that I realized, it is that our community needs to be engaged differently. Knowing that school fills most of our busy schedule, I believe that school should also provide us with activities that will make us feel like our hours of studying was worth a cool-down. This is what I want for us. I am your best shot, let’s have some fun MSU.

Coordinator of Student Advocacy
David Thomas Li
Hey Marianopolis! Next semester, I am looking to invest my time into Mari so that the school becomes a more enjoyable and less stressful investment for you guys. For some, reading many pages of bylaws and codes of conduct is not a struggle. For others, it's hard to leave time for that in your busy schedules. I hope to integrate all you need to know about the school in digestible posts every week! Many more ideas on my page, so check out my campaign! Vote for accessibility and David Li ;)

Coordinator of Student Advocacy
Edward Hee Yun
My name is Edward Hee Yun, a first-year student currently enrolling in the Honours Health Science program. I have contributed to the school by partaking in various clubs and positions, namely the Silver Key Student Ambassador Club, LRC peer tutor, main filmmaker in Mari News Blitz, and Marianopolis First Aid Team. I believe I am suited for this position for my ability to associate myself with the struggles and difficulties of a typical student at Marianopolis. If elected, I, as the Coordinator of Student Advocacy, will stay true to the name of the position and give my all to get us the maximal support we deserve as students. I’ve always wanted to create a faculty that students could “fall back on” when they felt the need to. Please allow me to be the one to hear your grievances and struggles. I promise you won’t regret entrusting your vote to me.
